Breast Cancer Care live chat session

On Wednesday 22 September 2004 Breast Cancer Care will be piloting a live online chat session. Whilst we hope to run more structured or themed discussions in the future, the main aim of this pilot will be to gain feedback from you on how you find the experience and software.

The session will be moderated by staff at Breast Cancer Care, allowing you to 'chat' to other users in real time. You will not need to set up any new software yourself to take part and technical help will be available before, during and afterwards.

We plan to run two sessions, one in the morning and one in the evening, of around an hour each. Places will be limited and must be confirmed with me in advance, so if you would like to get involved, or would just like more information, email me by logging into the forums then clicking on the 'contact' icon to the left of this message.

thanks for clashing with our regular chat session that we already hold...

I tried to get into yours a few times, Mark, but it failed so I gave up.
If this one is simple, I'm up for it.
Thank goodness it's the 22nd, otherwise I would have to decide between BCC and Indiana Jones. What a dilemma that would be ....

I hope BCC admin are monitoring this thread.

I hope the evening chat time does not clash with our regular one that Markb set up for 8 pm on Wednesdays.

It seems strange to choose the same day.

I am glad to see this initiative, but it'd be nice if MarkB's attempts were being taken into account as I am sure he could give BCC lots of feedback.

Hello. I just wanted to reassure you we've chosen this date for the pilot session only and the evening one will not clash with your regular 8pm session. Dates for future sessions will be decided later, and we will try to avoid any clashes. We want to include as wide a range of participants as possible, so it would be great to have people who have experience of other chat rooms on board as well as people who have never used one before. Do please contact me if you have any concerns.

I think this sounds a great idea. I also tried to get into MarkB's but couldn't download the software and thought it all looked a bit complicated. This one looks much simpler and I'm defintely up for it. Pat

Hello. We still have a few places left for the pilot session. Let me know if you'd like to take part.

I've had an email from Simon to say that it is between 6 and 7.
It may be worth checking your emails.
I hope I'm not talking to myself - it's a habit i've been trying to drop ...

where did you all go?

Sorry you are talking to yourself but don't despair I do so too. I didn't sign up for the BCC chat cos I am going on MarkB's chat tonight and two in one day is too much. But I wonder how many people tried to chat and failed on the BCC one as opposed to people just not turning up?????? It is quite hard to get chat rooms going as people have differing time constraints. I am not sure a one off trial would tell very much about the likely use of a permanently open chat room. I think it would be wonderful if these chats got off the ground as there is clearly a need for them, but it seems hard to get people started.

I must admit, the bcc chat room has bells and whistles (anything to keep me amused). for example you can "page" one another or be selective about who gets messages. You can also see who else is in the chatroom, so no lurking in the corners. The software crashed, apparently, so I don't feel snubbed.
Maybe the answer is to have themed chat rooms such as "treatments" or "reconstruction". Then there is the NHS chat room and the Private Insurance chat room (where you are charged per letter but they're very polite about it).
Or a Mornington Crescent chat room (it's your turn, by the way)

Great to have software that lets you seee who's lurking in the corners, perhaps especially if there is no one else there. Glad you dont feel snubbed Margie; what did you do to crash that software????

Couldn't get in!

I couldn't get in for either the morning or afternoon one. I spoke to Simon and he said it may have been something to do with my firewall! They're hoping to iron out the problems and try again. Sorry to have missed you, Margie!
