Does anyone fancy a new game?
It's guess which song this is the 1st line from. If you get it you have to put up a new 1st line.

I'll start it off with something easy . . .

WHEN YOU TRY YOUR BEST BUT YOU DON'T SUCEED, WHEN YOU GET WHAT YOU WANT BUT NOT WHAT YOU NEED . . . . . .

Easy!!!!!!???????

Lesley and Barbie: Am sure Barbie's song earlier was A New England (Billy Bragg/Kirsty MacColl)..or am I a dimwit and he nicked it off Simon and Garfunkel?!)

Anyway,,,new line is:

clairemc is not and never has been a dimwit!

posted Sun, 09 Oct 2005 10:23PM

I googled the line and the names and found that they're actually two (or two and a bit) different songs!

After the first line Barbie gave us, the S&G one continues:
"Time hurries on and the leaves that are green turn to brown,
"And they wither with the wind, and they crumble in your hand."

The next lines from Billy Bragg's version are:
"People ask when will you grow up to be a man
"But all the girls I loved at school are already pushing prams"
and it ends with
"I don't want to change the world. I'm not looking for a new England,
"I'm just looking for another girl"

Kirsty MacColls is similar but more colourful:
"People ask me when will I grow up to understand
"Why the girls I knew at school are already pushing prams"
and
"I'm not looking for a new England - Are you looking for another girl?"

We never looked this clever before Google!
