Re private messages .,quote( from terms and conditions.)......".Breast Cancer Care will monitor Private Messages on a random basis to ensure compliance with these terms and conditions"
Are random checks on them really necessary?Surely if a condition is broken,it can be reported by the receiver and appropriate action taken.Just a thought for consideration maybe.,I feel that private messages should be just that, private.
Breast Cancer Care understands your concerns concerns regarding private messages, however, messages posted in these forums are contained within the Breast Cancer Care messaging system and we wish to ensure that the system is not being abused in any way and that members of the forum can feel confident when they post personal messages that they are in a safe environment.
All our moderators undergo a rigorous training programme and are contractually bound by a confidentiality agreement and our legal team tell us that random checking of private messages is recommended in order to help safeguard both our users and Breast Cancer Care.
I do hope that this clarifies the purpose of random checks.
I thinks its such a pity that this is still not a proper private messaging system. Regular users have debated this so many times over the past few years. As far as I am concerned all I want is a system which allows me to contact another user direct...that user should be able to decline receiving messages if they want, and should be able to respond or not if they want. Users should decide for themselves whether at some point they want to exchange personal e-mail addresses or meet personally. Adult women with cancer are no more or less vulnerable to abuse through internet contacts than other internet users. Yes people differ in the sophistication of their use of the internet and the amount of very peronal information they will broadcast to cyber space...but this is a general contemporary interent issue not something specific to this site.
I really value the BCC forums and cannot imagine that changing but I have watched so many thousands of pounds being spent on various upgrades and heralded improvements over the past 3 years...many of which haven't quite delivered.
