Hi I start Chemo next week and Saw in one of the papers about "Life Mel" honey that can help boost the immune system during treatment.. can anyone help? where can I get this honey? Has anyone tried it? Thanks Mel X
Yes I saw something about this...it's very interesting. I think it's about £40 a pot or something. I don't see how it could do any harm giving it a try.
thanks guy I have found the web site that sells it www.lifemel.co.uk and apparently it is the only company that imports it from Israel and yes it is £40 per pot 112g! you ae adviced to have to teaspoons a day - so if my maths are right thats a pot every 10days - not sure if my budget will stretch that far.... tc Mel x
You could just take it during the 'infection watch' week to give the old immune system a boost and save cash too!!!! Might not work though I s'pose. TBH anything's worth a try!!! I have been drinking green tea and eating berries like they are going out of fashion, probably just give me the runs or something instead!!!!
I have just been to CE Harrod Pharmacy in Fulham, near where I work, and have bought some Life Mel Honey. £42.50 so hope it works but as mentioned above anything is worth a go! As it's so expensive I think I'll use it only for the second half of second week and third week when I'm feeling low.
Mel 1999, Seven Seas Vitamin and Mineral Tonic has really perked me up in the past too. It tastes like what your mum gave you as a kid when you were ill... I love it!
hi a My hubby has gone behind my back a brought 5 jars! he must think we have one the lottery or something! but he keeps saying that if it helps it is worth every penny - it better! So I will let you all know how I feel & what my blood counts are like after my first chemo next week!! He better get that overtime in!
Let me know if you think the honey is working - as may have to invest as am definitely worried about my immune system and will do anything to help me keep tough.
Hi all Dawn will let you know if i works got my first blood test on the 29th Aug. Cecelia I hope you feel ok and that the honey does the trick, keep us posted.
I'm trying this too. I am currently on weekly taxotere for liver mets and bloods plummeted resulting in needing a blood transfusion so my Mum kindly bought me a jar to try so will let you know how I get on too. Very pricy in my mind so jury's out for the moment but if it works I would carry on.
I have also been taking spatone http://www.spatoneshop.co.uk/home.php to keep my iron levels up and this has defintely been working as they have remained the same post transfusion.
Still on the Honey. no more side effects. Wll have blood test on wednesday (FBC) before 2nd chemo on Thursday. So will let u all know if al is ok... Will be interesting to see. Anyone else using the Honet?
Hi i studied bee's and had my own apiary till i was diagnosed, i have read about what mel honey contains, well, hate to say this, but honey is honey, if you buy it locally from a local bee-keeper to your area, you are just as likely to get exactly the same in your honey, for eg, i have many herbs in my garden, and different plants, all put in specifically for feeding my bee's, (as most bee-keepers do ) so do look to your local bee-keeper, plus if you suffer from hayfever, local honey is the best thing for that, as long as the honey is produced within a 6 mile radius of where you live.
I have been on the honey but it only lasted me about 10 days and I can't really afford to buy it any more. But my white blood cell count was up to a much safer level today and they upped my chemo doseage (just done my 4th, whoop!) so looks like it does something. I've been eating better and occasionally taking the Seven Seas Liquid Tonic which is also yum, much cheaper and has loads of good vits in it. So it's hard to say what exactly has been working.
