The only problems with the link is that you have to copy it and the dangers of transcription errors are rife particularly when on tx. Is there any other way to find these documents.
If you go to 'Support for you' at the top of this page, then go to the 'Information' tab you can access all of the publications from there via the 'Publications' tab on the left hand side of the page. This is complicated but it will be easier on the new website.
We are now counting the days before the launch of the new website. Our editors and nurses are busy preparing the content and the developers are building all the new functionalities (profiles, new forums, publications ordering system etc)
This whole project has been about delivering a better website to you, our users, so we want to give you all the opportunity to preview and test the new website. Here is the plan: Test (Beta) launch
• Week commencing Monday 15th September (we will confirm the exact day and time next week) we will we be switching off the current forums and moving over to the new ones • We will be migrating all the accounts, threads and public posts. Please note that we won’t be able to move private messages. If you want to keep messages sent to you privately, I suggest you copy them and save them in a document on your computer. • On the new website, you will have an inbox where future messages sent to you privately will be stored. • We will have to shut the forums down for a couple of hours while we’re migrating the content. Our breast cancer helpline will be open as usual on 0808 800 6000. • As soon as the migration is completed you will have access to the new website. We will let you know what the address is on the day. • Registrations for new users and log-in will automatically be redirected to the new site.
Testing
We are planning to launch officially on 29th September. During the testing (beta) period, we would really like to you to help us by reporting any possible bugs you encounter. Together we will make sure that the site is ready for the wider world when we launch officially at the end of September! All change…
We will do our utmost to help you adapt to the new site which has a very different look, feel and functions.
The hosts and moderators will be checking the forums as usual. We have set up a dedicated phone help line which will be open from 10am – 3pm Monday to Friday from 15th September until the official launch. The number for this line is 0845 092 0826. A dedicated help email will be up and running from the same period: websupport@breastcancercare.org.uk
Please call this number or email us if you are struggling with the new system and need our support. We can’t guarantee we will respond to everything but we will be prioritising fixes to ensure that the key functions are working correctly for you.
Thanks for this info. Are you able to give any info on when the transcripts of the July and August podcasts will be available on the (old or new) website?
As you know, we are endeavouring to build the best website possible for you, with all the new community tools that we are developing. In my last message, I told you that we were aiming to launch next week, however we have had to take a step back and reassess what is the best thing to do. Basically there is too much work still to do to get the new forums to the level that we want them to be plus migrating over 160,000 posts, so we have had to change our launch plans around.
All being well, we will now be launching the new website on the 29th September, however minus the new forums/profiles. These existing forums we are on now will continue to run alongside the new website until we are ready to switch over to the new forums, which will hopefully be in mid-October. Again the same applies as per my previous message in terms of the additional phone and email support we will offer you once the new community is live.
I am sorry for this delay, but we would much rather be honest and open with you that we need more time, rather than rush in something that is only half-finished and full of bugs!
I will keep you updated as to how we progress from here.
Just wanted to say thank you for all your work and care. I'll be away on holiday while you are working your socks off. Look forward to seeing the new site when I am back.
The beta (test) version of our new website is now live at http://beta.breastcancercare.org.uk/. Have a look! We have over 300 pages of information with related contents and links to the relevant Breast Cancer Care services. We also have an improved navigation and search engine.
We are currently working on the next phase of development: new publications ordering, donation forms and of course community (forums, profiles and private messaging).
I've just had a quick go round the new site and it feels fine to me - i might ask friends who have never used the BCC site to have a look and tell me what they think - after all - i know what i am lookign for! best of luck
Thanks for that idea Jennifer - if you could ask friends who are not familiar with the site to take a look that would really be helpful. As you say it's easy to find things when you know what you are looking for!
Sorry if I haven't given you an update recently, we have been beavering away busily in the background! Basically we have just finished building the new publications ordering and online donation systems and are now moving onto the final and most important phase of the project, which is the community. New discussion forums, new profile pages, bookmarking, commenting, etc - all of this is still to complete and we are hopeful that we might be ready to launch by mid-December. However, if it gets too close to christmas we may well wait and launch in the new year, as we don't want to cause too much disruption at that particular time of year.
Thank you for your continued patience, we are taking our time to make sure we deliver you the best website possible.
I'm brand new here so just getting the hang of the site. One suggestion is about the discussion boards. Why not put them in reverse order so that the most recent posts come up first.
