A couple of suggestions to improve the user experience:

    - Is it possible to extend the period of time a user remains signed into the site for?

BCC seems to log you out after half an hour or so. I have only seen this happen on banking websites or sites with secure payment. Please appreciate how frustrating it is - especially with Chemo Brain - to spend half an hour composing a spontaneous response and to lose the text after pressing the "post message". It is too much faff to start a document in word and paste it in as the formatting is different etc. Often I can't be bothered to retype my message as I have lost my train of thought and the moment has passed. Am typing this furiously so that this doesn't time out on me!

    - Where are the users' profiles?

We enter all this information about our diagnosis when we register on the site & it would be handy sometimes if you knew what someone's dx and treatment was so that you don't post something that's irrelevant or put your foot in it! Similarly, there's nowhere to update this information (that I can see) if your diagnosis changes. Some sites have footers (optional) where a user can enter their dx, treatment history and hormone/protein status. e.g. IDC Grade II Stage II, ER-/PR- HER2+++

    - It may be handy to know how many users are online at any given moment.

Sometimes we are frightened and need reassurance and if you know that there aren't many people online who may be able to help, it could calm you down a bit if you don't get a response.

    Many thanks

    Hi Alli

Were you reading, or did you respond to anything? I responded to another post staright after I finished typing my first post on this thread, and it happened again! (admittedly it was a decent length paragraph, not a one liner). There was a red error message in the top right hand corner (near where you log in) saying something along the lines of "not authorised to post comments", and I could see that I'd been kicked off as the link said Sign In (which I had been!). If I look right now it says "Signed in as ripley" and Sign Out on the link. Perhaps the time out happens when you're entering comments as opposed to when you're browsing?

    Hi ripley,
I've been reading and posting on it for a while and this has never happened.Perhaps you should ask the moderator what is wrong. It might be something to do with your computer.

    Hi Ripley

I have had the same problem as you - maddening, isn't it?

I've been getting round it by copying what I'm typing as I go along, so that I can paste it back into the comments box if/when I get timed out.

    Hi

I'm sure you notice many people saying their posts have been swallowed up or disappeared. It has just happened to me - I was logged in, previewed the post, hit Add Your Comments and got the following in a red font:

    Some problems were encountered
A user identifier was not supplied.
You do not have permission to add comments to discussions.
You cannot take part in the discussions because you are not signed in.

There is clearly a timeout issue when you are writing posts (but not when reading or browsing). I was logged in, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to write a post. Please, please can you look into this as it is really frustrating to rewrite posts, or cut and paste into word just incase - I forget to copy posts most of the time, and anyway, it takes away the spontanaeity - you lose the moment and often don't bother to re-write.

    Thanks

I hope all these problems will vanish when we are on the new forum... with secure place for profiles, email notification of private messages etc. etc.

    Hi Ripley,
sometimes, after a long post ( I am incapable of doing a short reply usually), my post won't be accepted, but when I press the "Add your comments" box again, it miraculously goes through. At times I have printed out my response so that I just have to retype it (I was a secretary for some 30 yrs and can type very quickly). Don't know if this will help.
    Liz.

    Hi Ripley,
Yes this happens to me quite often too - extremely frustrating. Thanks for bringing it to the moderator's attention.
If I write a long involved reply I try to remember to copy it before hitting the button, but usually remember I haven't just as i hit the button!
