Just wondered whether we will be able to post links on the new discussion forum on the new site?
After ranting to my OH about how people can't even post links to things link justgiving he suggested I ask this:
Does anyone know of any other forums related to cancer patients that forbid the posting of links.
While I understand the need to protect BCC etc it is oppressive and the net was invented to share info so I would like to ask if this policy could be given a serious review/discussion.
Yes, but you can post links in P.M's or at least I do, so there is a very simple way around it. Just make you next comment a pm and post your link. Shall I give it a try Horace? I'll post a link to where I went on holiday - see you below in the P.M.
as i understand it you can post links or exchange personal information in pms but not in the forum posts. You can get link info across very easily in posts though if you tell someone what to google. But vertangie's point is will this be reviewed on the new forum site.
Very odd - I know I've posted at least one link and I remember seeing it come through - but of course now I can't remember what I was talking about or where it was. As far as I remember I just cut and pasted the link from the page into the message.
I have posted lots of links in the open forums to various cancer related websites/news items. I think it was onlly for a short period that links were not allowed. Perhaps moderator could clarify.
I just wanted to respond to Jane's question regarding the posting of links and wanted to refer you to point 7 of our Terms and Conditions:-
"Breast Cancer Care does not link to any third party site other than recognised registered charities or relevant partners, and will not endorse any site for which they cannot ensure either reliability of information or confidentiality of users".
Have always thought the wording a bit unclear Louise. Are you saying we must not post full links i.e. www.breastcancercare.org? And how do we know what bcc consider to be recognised registered charities or relevant partners? Is it permitted to post for instance 'breastcancercare.org' (i.e. without the www). My understand when it states 'does not link to' suggests that, as on many other sites where the full link is posted, that one can click on it and be taken to the site.
We allow full links to recognised charities and our partners and I appreciate that users may not always be completely sure as to which we may allow or not as the case may be. We, as moderators will always 'check out' sites which we are uncertain about before making the decision to remove/edit a link to ensure that it is appropriate.
You are correct in that we will allow sites to be mentioned, but without the full www, etc, etc so as to avoid a link directly from this website.
Thank you Louise :). A further question - if members put a full link are you saying that moderators will only therefore remove the www that precedes the site name? Obviously offensive or inappropriate sites would be removed in their entirety.
