I was first diagnosed with cancer in 2000 at the age of 44 with secondaries found this year. I have had 6 sessions of Herceptin with a few problems. Has anyone had problems with their feet? My legs and feet are so swollen that I cannot wear shoes. I have been given water tablets and potassium which has helped take some of the swelling down but not enough to wear shoes! I am due another dose of Herceptin tomorrow but have been told I may not be able to continue with Herceptin if I am still having problems.
(One brilliant side effect of the potassium is that my heart now beats normally, and I have a lot more energy).
How recently have they done an echo or muga scan? Often ankles and feet swelling is an indication that the heart function is being affected by the herceptin. I hope they have ruled this out and that the swelling is due to other things.
I have had an ecg and this showed that my heart was working fine. I do hope that it's not the Herceptin that's causing it as I think they will stop me having it. I would rather have swollen feet than the tumours get bigger! My dad took potassium and water tablets as he had heart problems so it might be something else.
Hi pegrum..I'm not on herceptin but saw your post..I also have swollen feet (and bone mets)..have you tried a pair of birkenstocks? Know they're not to everyone's taste but they are fairly wide and you can get clog types for autumn..also crocs?? Hope you're able to continue herceptin..Belinda..x
