Surgery I found a lump about 2 months ago and had all the tests etc and a biopsy and told that the cells and tissues were abnormal but not malignant. I have been booked in to get the lump removed they said so that they could be sure it was ok. The thing is I had my pre op assessment and tey said that I won\'t be able to drive for a while or lift heavy things. Seeing as I have a one year old this is quite concerning as I \'m woried how I\'ll cope. How long does it take to recover from a lump removal? And does it really hurt??
Lumptectomy pain Hi there, I had a lumptectomy in the 80\'s. I have small scar and had very little pain ( the itching was the worst for me.) The instructions were no heavy lifting etc... I went back to work the day after and I was pleasantly surprised how minimal the pain was.
Hope that helps relieve the fear. Anyway, you will see you little one after it is removed and realize coping is what mommies do best!
Hi Macloed Recovery from surgery varies from person to person. Depending upon the size of the wound, you can expect it to heal within 2 to 3 weeks. BCC Host This link doesn\'t seem to wor for me - it juts jumps to the website home page. I haven\'t managed to locate & navigate to these documents on the website either. Help needed. many thanks
Depends on the size of the lump, positioning of the incision and the size of your boobs to begin with. Personally, I have been off work for anything from 10 days (left sided-lumpectomy) to 5 weeks (with a bilateral wide local exision, ie where good tissue is removed as well as the tumour). However, I have been unable to lift anything for at least a month, up to 2 months afterwards. With the bilateral wle, I needed help washing, dressing and eating for the first week and a bit because I couldn\'t lift my arms higher than my waist.
So basically, you will need help with your 1 year old for at least the first week - even if you\'re able to control the pain with painkillers, you won\'t feel like doing much because of the anaesthetic, which will make you really tired and lethargic. You won\'t be allowed to drive for about 4-6 weeks either so you should look at alternative arrangements. Some areas have a Good neighbours transport scheme which is especially designed for situations like these. There should be some information about this at your local hospital notice board or ask at the reception desk. Hope it all goes well
