Breast cancer is not common in younger women (women who have not yet reached the menopause). The vast majority of breast cancers (around 80 per cent) occur in women over the age of 50.
Being diagnosed with breast cancer at a young age can be a very isolating experience and will mean making choices about your future far sooner than you may have expected. As a younger woman with breast cancer you may find yourself facing a number of issues and concerns that are different from those experienced by older women.
Breast Cancer Care has developed Standards of Care for younger women with breast cancer to address the specific issues which may affect you, and ensure your specialist needs are not over looked. These standards have been developed in conjunction with younger women with breast cancer as well as breast cancer specialists.
