Live chat
Live chat is Breast Cancer Care's online service where you can talk to others in real time. It is facilitated by an experienced moderator and a specialist nurse who are on hand to point you to sources of help and information. But for most people, the chance to talk to others in a similar situation is what counts.
Our current programme
General breast cancer discussion: Join us weekly 9-10pm on Thursdays. This session is for anyone with a diagnosis of breast cancer but it is mostly used by people with a diagnosis of primary breast cancer.
We also run a live chat session for people with a diagnosis of secondary breast cancer. This session is only open to people with a diagnosis of secondary breast cancer, that is when the cancer has spread to another part of the body. Anyone who doesn't have secondary breast cancer will be asked to leave the session by the facilitators.
Join us weekly 8.30-9.30pm on Tuesdays for our secondary breast cancer live chat.
If you're not sure which session is right for you, please email moderator@breastcancercare.org.uk.
To join, simply register on the site and then click the 'Chat now' button you'll see at the top-right of this page.
How to use the live chat
Once you've registered on our website, you can chat directly to other people. Simply use the same login details for both the live chat and the forums.
Register
To use the chat you need to register with the community first.
Room opening
The chatroom is only open at the times stated on the website. If you try to join outside of these times the room will be closed. The room usually open a few minutes before the scheduled opening times.
Room closing
The chatroom will close at the scheduled time. However, the room will close to new admissions a few minutes before the session is scheduled to end.
Sending messages
Talk to others in the room by clicking in the white line at the bottom of the chat window. Type your message then either click on the arrow at the end of the line or press 'enter'. Your message will appear on the chat screen with your username and everyone else in the room will be able to read it.
Reading messages
Most messages are public, so anyone can read them. Occasionally the nurse may send a private message to you. These messages will be marked 'whisper', and no-one other than you or the nurse who sent it can see it.
If you have any queries or are experiencing any difficulties please email moderator@breastcancercare.org.uk. Please be aware that this email address is checked during normal working hours, 9am - 5pm, any queries sent outside of this time will be answered during the next working day
Please note - live chat sessions may at times be observed by Breast Cancer Care staff for training or technical reasons.
