---Hi - I have just finished taking Tamoxifen after two and a half years as I want to try for a child before it\'s too late. I have a slightly different worry and was wondering if anyone else might have experienced something similar. Since coming off it in November, I have had two very regular periods followed by another three weeks or so ago - again very regular. However it doesn\'t seem to want to stop and even though it is old blood and only spotting my GP wants me to go for an endoscopy ( I\'m sure that was the term!!) to check all is well and that there are no signs of endimetrial cancer ----- OH MY GOD !! That freaked me because I was sure that you could have some bizarre periods when coming off Tamoxifen and wasn\'t panicking. I Know she\'s just eliminating things but has anyone else had similar withdrawl symptoms from this drug? Surely my hormones are just taking time to settle as I have had tender breasts also like I\'m pre- menstraul.

Hi Fergal cant really help as I havent started my Tamoxifen yet, but just want to say that its probably a colposcopy youll be having ( a vaginal scope), not an endoscopy ( that goes via your mouth).
Hope other people can help with your queries
--- ---Thank you for that - my memory is rubbish!!!

Tamoxifen and monthly cycle Hi,
I have tried asking my oncologist this question but she always skirts around the answer, so I wondered if anyone here could help. I had a mastectomy/lymph nodes last year. I was told there were two tumours, both grade 2, no lymph involvement, and had four rounds of AC chemo before starting Tamoxifen.
The oncologist heavily pushed (and is still pushing) oopherectomy or ablation and I didn\'t want that as my dh and I don\'t yet have kids. I don\'t think I want any, but you never know. Neither do I fancy going grey just yet.
I\'m 34, (33 at diagnosis) and I was told (by the onc) that when I started Tamoxifen, it would put me through the menopause.
She said this would be as a result of the \"switched off\" estrogen. My cancer apparently reacted on estrogen. I understand up to here.
So if the estrogen has been \"turned off\", how come I am getting regular cycles, just like I always have. Maybe a little heavier, but other than that - the same.
Does this mean I still have estrogen in my body? Won\'t any remaining cancer cells be merrily multiplying as a result of this remaining estrogen?
Sorry for all the questions!
--- ---Hi - the tamoxifen can bring on an early menopause but mostly with women in their 30\'s i\'m sure it just messes with your cycle and possibly in some cases creates a fake menopause. My cycle was altered a little but not massively and I was on it for two and a half years and have just come off it to try for another child. Even after coming off it my cycles are still being messed around with and I think this is just the thing with tamoxifen - it messes with your hormones. I might be wrong but it\'s only if you are near menopause that it might actually bring it on. Hope this helps with some of your worries!
