Black cohosh ? Has anyone who has gone into early menopause tried black cohosh ?
Have heard it is meant to help and thought it might be worth a go as not on hrt and in early menopause (in my 30\'s) so would be interested to hear from anyone who has tried it for a period of time and their opinion on if it helped them or not and any other problems they felt was associated with it . I have just ordered some as they are on special offer at holland and barrett £2.99 for 180 capsules instead of £11.99 so thought I would give it a go and see as my doctor is fine about me trying alternative medicines and therapy. Any other advice and idea\'s welcome.

A word of warning Hi Courtney
I was told by my onc NOT to use any plant oestrogens, as my tumour was ER+.
Don\'t know what yours was.
Just thought you should know.

--- My onc also told me that it was ok to take my evening primrose oil but NOT to have anything that contained phyto-oestrogens which i think that does.
Always check Like the other replies, I have heard that this can have adverse interactions for ER+ bc.
A site that I find useful for initially checking potential interactions is
the Memorial Sloan-Kettering cancer center site: http://www.mskcc.org/mskcc/html/11570.cfm

Courtney I looked into anything and everything to help with my flushes etc caused by Tamoxifen and then Zoladex.
However, I was dismayed to find that taking Black Cohosh amongst others is not advised whilst on Tamoxifen as it can counteract it\'s effectiveness.
I chose instead to have a fan beside my bed which is on for part of the night, and use hand held fans at work during the day. The flushes pass quickly when I use them. I also found that my flushes AND my flagging libido improved very SLIGHTLY ( and I do mean VERY slightly!! ) when I stopped Zoladex after 13 months of it. I\'m now still on Tamoxifen and just using fans as I need them and to be honest I suppose I\'ve at last got used to dealing with the side effects a lot better than I did initially.
I\'m still working on everything else brought on by the treatment induced early menopause however!
Hope you can get a refund.

Thank you Just to say a big thank you, I have done more research and will be getting back in touch with GP/onc to see what their opinions on black cohosh and my circumstances are before I make any further decisions.
Thank you for highlighting these facts and informining me .
courtney.
Black Cohosh I am suffering with the usual hot flushes brought on by Zoladex putting me into a temporary (I hope) menopause. My GP suggested Black Cohosh which I bought, but before taking it thought I\'d do my own research. I was horrified to find an American study which was using mice, showed a spread of cancer in the mice with the Her2 gene. As I have this gene the black cohosh went in the bin.
Does anyone know of a herbal remedy that is safe?
Many thanks
