Bristol Primaries
There's a lovely group of ladies meeting monthly in Bristol, usually a lunch-meet at Brown's restaurant just up from the BRI, but I find it quite depressing how most of the members are dealing with secondary, metastasised cancer. One could conclude that treatment in our patch is not good, and most of us going on to progressive disease, but maybe the truth is happier that those of us who so far have escaped lightly or been diagnosed early, just get on with their busy life and don't go to meetings!
Anyway I wondered if primary BC Ladies aren't coming along because the invitation thread is in the Secondaries meet-ups area? Please do get in touch.

Hi, I'd be interested to meet you all. I had a mastectomy six weeks ago in the BRI and have had absolutely no follow-up, after the one week appointment with the surgeon. My so-called breast cancer nurse never returns my calls and chatting to others might be good.

There is a meeting this Wednesday 14th Sept at Browns in Clifton (on the Triangle) from 1130. This is the mixed primary and secondary group and you would be very welcome. We meet at 1130 so that you can come along for coffee and/or stay for lunch. The table will be booked in the name of Brown. I think there are about 4 or 5 who have said they can come so far. I probably won't get there until nearer 12.00 but will book the table for the usual time.
Hope to see you then
Anne
I have primary breast cancer and I did attend one meeting at Browns. Everyone was lovely but after hearing everyone's stories (and most of them were about secondaries or just about horrendous experiences) it scared the living daylights out of me and I never went back! I thought it would just be a lighthearted get together where we could talk about things other than cancer and treatment but it wasn't like that at all. Maybe I just came on a bad day I don't know. Sorry if this offends anyone who belongs to the group.
I did try setting up a group for newly diagnosed ladies but it never got off the ground.
I have a daughter living near Bristol who actually works at the BRI. She is only 41 and has had 2 primaries (2 mastectomies and recons, 2 lot of chemo and rads etc) since she was 32. I mentioned to her that I had seen on the forum that there was a group meeting in Bristol but she said that that was the last thing that she would want to join- she just wanted to get on with her life and be 'normal' again.
I went to a support group locally for a time after my own BC and treatment but we are all different and I suspect many younger women in particular feel like my daughter- and that while they are well they just want to get on with their lives.
