Chemotherapy whilst pregnant
Hi,
I am 35 years old and have been diagnosed with bc 8 weeks ago. I am also 30 weeks pregnant now.
I have already had 2 chemotherapies (FEC 75). The original plan was to have 4xFEC then eliver the baby and then have 4xFEC-D. I saw the oncologist today and she said that she is tempted to switch to FEC-D now, for my 3rd session. She hasn't given me a definite answer but will ring me tomorrow and explain more.
Has anyone been on FEC-D whilst being pregnant? I thought that the whole point of starting that after the baby is born is because it is not safe to give during pregnancy.
Thanks,
Zeljka

Sorry, I can't provide any information on this but I will bump it to see if someone else can. J.
Definitely a question to put to the helpline, give them a ring in the morning and see if they can hunt out some information for you.
And congratulations on your impending baby, very best of luck. I hope you have lots and lots of help lined up.
Hi zelkja
I'm sure the Helpline may be able to answer some of your questions or
certainly point you towards other sources of help and information.
They're open Weekdays 9-5 and Saturday 9-2

Hi Zelkja
I don't know the answer to your question sorry but wanted to bump this up for you in case anyone else does.
I would have thought that the tax (does the d stand for docetaxel?) would be given after the baby was born. There is a poster on here called jane72 who also had to have chemo whilst pregnant and I think she had tax after the baby was born - have a look at her previous postings/threads. Jane would be one of the best people to speak to as she has gone through this so recently. However, once treatment has finished many people don't come on here as often as they are trying to get on with their lives/busy looking after families etc and I don't know how often jane comes on these days.
Is it not possible that they could give you a short chemo break, maybe induce the baby and then start tax?
Good luck and keep us posted. Love xxxx
Hi, I am pregnant and I am having chemo. I'm 23 weeks now but started chemo when I was 17 weeks. I am on AC every 3 weeks untill I am 27 weeks. Then i am starting Herceptin at 29 weeks. I am stage 4.
My onc mentioned Tax and I think I am getting that with the Herceptin. I'm not 100% sure though. I am seeing her Monday so I will clarify it with her. I know originally she said the Tax would be after the baby is born but I think she may have changed her mind and decided to give it at 29 weeks. as I said i will clarify Monday. If i can help in any way, let me know xx
Hi Zeljka
Congrats on your continuing pregnancy first of all, though I'm sorry to hear you're going through such a tough time.
As Swissmiss says, I had AC while pregnant and Paclitaxel after delivery. I did have quite a long gap - 6 weeks after ACx4 before I gave birth (baby came naturally at 36 weeks) and then another month before I started Tax.
My onc, who seems to have reasonable experience treating pregnant wome with cancer, was not happy for me to have Tax while pregnant. There haven't been the same studies done and as Taxanes attack cancer cells in a different way, I don't think there's that much known about the possible effects on an unborn baby. What is your diagnosis?
I hope you're coping ok, physically and mentally.
xxx Jane
