Daily mirror today ( 29th july 20011) re Tamoxifen....
Headline ( granted on page 37) 'Breast Cancer Medicine Cuts Death Risk By Third... tamoxifen keeps working for 10 years' In essense it says tamoxifen ..according to recent research on tamoxifen (shows if taken daily for 5 years,) for hormone-sensitive cancers since the 1980's found 'a significant reduction in breast cancer deaths during years 0-4 and 5-9 but also during years 10 -14' 'The statistics are reported online in the Lancet by the early Breast Cancer Trialists Collaborative group, which brings together evidence from trials worldwide since the 1980's.'
'half the 1.4 million women a year who develop breast cancer globally are under 55. Lead investigator Christina Davies reortedly said " Breast Cancer is nasty because it can come back years later. Tamoxifen gives really long term protection. For hormone sensitive breast cancer, Tamoxifen reduces 15 year mortality by at least a third, whether or not chemotherapy has been given"'
The paper goes on to quote Breast cancer care spokeswoman Rachel Rawson saying that breast screening remains effective for detecting breast cancers soon. Encouraging women to attend.
I am not computer literate enough to include links from the paper or the online lancet...maybe someone else can if anyone is interested... I was encouraged by this, as I am set to do the 5 year Tamoxifen again, and after all it's 14 years since I took tamoxifen before and I'm still here!!
I hope this encourages someone else too
