---DEODORANT ---I WAS TOLD BY MY BREAST CARE NURSE THAT I MUST ONLY USE ALUMINIUM FREE DEODORANT, DOES ANYONE KNOW WHY - I FORGOT TO ASK HER. IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO GET ALUMINIUM FREE AND THE ONE I FOUND IS £2.50 A BOTTLE AND DOESTN\'T SMELL VERY NICE
aluminium There is a theory that it affects the DNA of cells. I use Tom\'s of Maine, which is not cheap but seems to last quite a long time. I really don\'t bother about scented deodorants, as the scents often conflict with whatever perfume or body lotion I want to use. Tom\'s of Maine also do a \"dodorant stone\" which is a lot cheraper. I\'ve heard about these - don\'t know if they work but they are a lot cheaper!
Waitrose sell 2 or 3 varieties. However I bought a stick of \'pit rock\' at a local organics store. Its completely scentless and looks like it will last for ever! It is best to use it straight after a shower, while your skin is still damp - otherwise you need to dampen your skin (or the pit-rock) before use. It was recommended to me by a colleague who has used it for a year or more.
I don\'t believe there is any proven risk using standard deodorants however, so I am surprised you\'ve been told you MUST use aluminium-free, unless you have specific condition that calls for it. It is just one of the many small things you can consider - as part of a general approach to improving lifestyle and/or reducing exposure to unknown environmental factors etc.
I hope you find something you like - but I wouldn\'t get too hung up about it if you don\'t.
--- I was infornmed , years ago, by the top prof at Boots the chemist head quaters that the reason about the alluminium is that it CAN build up in little pockets, in the areas around the breast causing the cancer (or possibly). But there is no way of telling whether or not the alluminium is building up in yourself or not.
I used to get many women coming into me saying their breast surgeon had told them not to use it anymore so i have to find out which ones you could get in boots without it.
If you look in Boots in the mens section, there is a boots own make which doesnt cantain it and works well. Its interesting that alot of the mens deo dont contain it !!!!!! and only a small amount of men bet bc ! makes you wonder.
aluminium i found a really good deodorant one of my cancer nurses suggested
it, the name is Biosen it not expensive and there is a large range of this product ,it contains no aluminium or alcohol,or parabens, smells lovely to!
i was able to get it in Asda and Superdrug. hope this is of some help.
because of mammograms? I read somewhere (can\'t remember where!) that the aluminium can show up on a mammogram and look like califications/DCIS , so maybe this was the reason your BC nurse advised not to use it?
Hi there There is a very long thread on this on the archives. Maybe BCC can bring it up for you.
Holland and Barratt sell a crystal stick which is £4.95 but which will last years and years. They don\'t smell at all but take away any risk of the deodorant causing cancer which some people say is true and others say there is no evidence.
If you go to the \'report\' button on this thread, and put a request in for the BCC to bring up the old thread on deodorants I am sure they will help you.

I have been using a deodorant that is free from aluminium salts for about a year and a half now. It is the aloe deodorant stick (Forever Living Products) and it is so good that I am now an independent trader of the aloe products! It is £5.26 and lasts for months. Contact me for more details (not available to buy in shops). A friend\'s mother is currently going through breast cancer and is dosing up on aloe vera gel to build and boost her immune system during this draining time. Call me on 07971 420839.
