Re: The future

The future Hi all. Im new to all this and pleased to have found this forum. There seems to be a lack of info out there specifically for younger women so i hope this is helpful. Im 38 diagnosed june 06, lumpectomy, WLI , 8 e-cmf and due to finish by last radio on weds. I was wondering what to expect from my check ups from now on. Do they perform any scans to see if the bc has already spread?? Im particularly concerned about bone cancer as a have had severe arthritis since i was 22 so how would i know if any new pain was cancer instead!!! All in all i am felling very positive about things but would appreciate any advice any one had to give about not worrying about the future.

Thanks

Re: The future

Hi HI there F1fan
I was in a severe car accident and have had multiple bone surgeries. I was just returning to work after these surgeries and was diagnosed with breast cancer. I am now finished treatement and that was my biggest concern was that i have so much bone pain now that how would i know if i develop bone secondaries. This is a question which causes me alot of worry. I have become very conscious of all of my pain and the areas of where i feel pain, ie lower back or right shoulder.
If this pain changes area of becomes more severe then i will go an have a bone scan. My oncologist has ordered me a bone scan once a year for this reason. This reasurres me in that i am developping arthritis and not bone secondaries. My rule of thumb is after 2 weeks if i am still in doubt, than i must check it out.
Hope this helps

Re: The future

Scans Hi girls

My surgeon told me that they used to do routine scans to look for mets but that it just caused uncecessary worry so now they prefer to leave us alone unless we have symptoms.

As you both have other health conditions which may mimic bone mets your breast team may be willing to offer you regluar scanning outwith normal protocol. It is certainly worth putting your case to them.

Re: The future

Thanks Thanks for your replies. The 2 week advice is a handy rule to work to, otherwise you worry about all little aches and pains - thats one ill try and remember. I think i'll try and get my oncologist to arrange a yearly bone scan just to keep my fears at bay if nothing else.

Thanks again. F1Fan
