Hi Ladies,

I am from Ayrshire would be good to talk to others who have been through or are going through treatment for breast cancer.

I was diagnosed in Nov 09 had a lumpectomy, re excision for clear margins, chemo EPI-CMF, 20 rads at the Beatson, tamoxifen for 5 years, had a Hysterectomy in Feb so now going through early Menopause. I am 33 have 2 girls 5 and 2.

My cancer was grade 2 12mm with some DCIS no node involvement but had some vascular invasion around edges of tumour. Feel ok most of the time but still have some very dark times with the fear of it returning.

Re: Glasgow/Ayrshire area

Hi Jill

theres quite a lot of scottish ladies on here... the glasgow girls meet up occasionally but the edinburgh girls meet up every month and youd be more than welcome to join us.

many of we the glasgow/ central/dumfries girls come through and our next lunch is on Saturday 30th April.... if your interested in joining us let me know.

we also have a FB group to keep up to date with things.

i was diagnosed for the second time in may 2009 and had epi-cmf and rads... i recently had a hysterectomy too but i am older than you as im 42.... my cancer was grade 3 19mm invasive with DCIS and LVI... i also had a tumour 5 years ago in the other side and it was a grade 1 and needed surgery and rads... i have gene mutation which is the most like reason i had bc twice.

Re: Glasgow/Ayrshire area

Hi Jill - Good to know you, i'm from Lanarkshire. I've not yet made it to either an Edinburgh or a Glasgow meet up but would really like to make it happen. Glasgow would be a bit easier for me in terms of transport. I was DX in Jan2010, had 17mm tumour in left breast, MX, 4AC chemo, and now tamoxifen. Just had first mammogram since DX last week - awaiting the results nervously, i can identify with your worry of it returning - total pants! Speak soon - maybe its time we tried to organise a meet up.

Re: Glasgow/Ayrshire area

Hi Jill. I'm an east coaster (Edinburgh) and like Lynn I also haven't made it to any meet-ups in Edinburgh or Glasgow - I'm sure my social life is fairly empty but I always seem to have something on when the monthly lunch is!

Same goes for this month Lulu - as its another bank holiday weekend, I've got the in-laws staying and so will have to entertain them instead on the 30th. Perhaps I'll make the May one, though it probably coincides with another bank holiday and I'll be away!

I've not reached the fear of returning yet (I'm sure I will tho) as I'm still in the middle of chemo. I'm a similar age as you Jill (36) but with no kids yet, and have 5 weeks of rads and 2-5 years of tamoxifen to look forward to once my chemo has finished...

Its a shame you didn't make it to the younger womens forum in March (I met Lynn and Lulu there) but there will perhaps be another one sometime. Its a good place to meet lots of others in similar circumstances.

Good luck with your mammo results Lynn.

Re: Glasgow/Ayrshire area

Hi Lulu, Lynn and Al,

Thank you for replying so quickly. Great to hear from you all A meet up sounds great but I wont be able to do the 30th got plans for this weekend sorry. Glasgow would prob be best for me as easier to get to, I went to the young womens forum last march it was really good.

Lynn I hope your mammo results are through fast, i kept calling the Breast nurse and got mine a week earlier than planned so maybe you could try that also.

Al - How are you finding the chemo? What regime are you on?

Lulu - whats your understanding of LVI it really worries me that it was found around my tumour.

Hope your all well x x x

Re: Glasgow/Ayrshire area

Hi Jill. I'm on 6 FEC. I've had the first three, due number 4 on Wednesday, if my WB cells are behaving (I only just scraped through last time!). What did you have? Its been better than I thought it would be - I had visions of being sick all the time. I've definitely got less energy than I had after the first one, but generally doing ok. Still yet to wear my wig - i'm either going commando or wearing a buff or hat. Hoping for a bit of sunshine to get the white head slightly less white, but there hasn't been all that much sun this weekend. Think the south has stolen all of our sun!

Have foolishly decided to do the Edinburgh race for life in June (near or at the end of my chemo, depending on whether it goes on schedule or not), so am hoping I'll get some energy from somewhere for that!

Re: Glasgow/Ayrshire area

Jill

i was at the glasgow younger womens forum last year too... we have probably already met.

im not too worried about the LVI as it tends to be less of a concern than positive nodes and with the chemos available these days even with positive nodes they have a very high cure rate... i know when i first discovered i had LVI i was panic stricken but eventually the rational part of my brain took over... if people with 10 positive nodes could be cured then im pretty sure that my LVI could be too.... and we never know whats around the corner in life even before cancer so i just make the most of it and enjoy myself.

Al good luck with race for life.

Re: Glasgow/Ayrshire area

Hi Jill

I would like to meet up with some of the Glasgow girls too.

Lynne I would love to meet you as you and I were going through treatment at the same time last year, and you always had good advice

Lulu you are a mind of information always helping others with your advice.

It would be better also for me to meet up in Glasgow, maybe after all of the bank holidays we can arrange something for everybody who wants to meet, everybody welcome.

Re: Glasgow/Ayrshire area

Hi Jill,

I'm from Ayrshire, have been desperate to meet up with others but am too scared to make the first move!

Am 44yrs of age and was diagnosed BC April 1st 2010. Had mastectomy May last year and am (hopefully) going through reconstruction surgery in August. Didn't need further treatment except Tamoxifen.

Family and friends have been supportive but I'm sure most of you will agree, they don't understand, as they haven't been through it! It's better to talk with someone who's had similar experience.

Best wishes to everyone.

Re: Glasgow/Ayrshire area

why dont we make a provisional date say on 4th of june if that fits in with everybody and we can think of somewhere to meet... maggie mays was quite nice where we had a big glasgow meet up in january, but its not that central so maybe some of the glasgow girls knows somewhere near to the stations?

Re: Glasgow/Ayrshire area

Hi,

The 4th of June is ok for me only thing is might have a kids party in the morning, kids have a better social life than me. Where is Maggie Mays in Glasgow???

Al - I am doing the race for life in May in Irvine, training just now for it hope to raise decent money for it.

Lulu - Thanks for your comments on LVI, feel less worried now, I think I did meet you at the YWF last year but was mid way through Chemo so was not feeling my best.

Mobil - I know what you mean wanting to talk to people in the same position, my family and friends have been amazing but dont fully understand.

Take care ladies xxx

Re: Glasgow/Ayrshire area

I'm still here Jill! Maybe you'll need to look over a wider area for other ladies - like all of Scotland!

If there is still a plan for a Glasgow meet on the 4th June, I can try to make it through. Perhaps for some birthday drinks for Lynn if she isn't being whisked off somewhere nice by her OH! It should be just before my last chemo so fingers crossed I will be feeling well and able to enjoy a wee G&T perhaps!

I don't know Glasgow very well so can't really help suggesting a location - anywhere not tooo far from the station is good with me, but I do have legs and it'll be good practice for my 5k if I have to walk somewhere.

How is your race for life training going Jill? Better than mine I hope!

Re: Glasgow/Ayrshire area

Hi All - confirmation i can do the 4th in Glasgow - unfortunately OH is working, so all thoughts of "whisking away" have come to nothing. I agree near the station is good (what station?) I'll thow in Barca as a suggestion, only a suggestion i'm not really what you'd call an organiser of stuff - only reason i suggest it is most folks know Princes Square (top floor) kind of near central and queen st. and ..... it does a nice bottle of cava, my favourite!
I hope we can get a few folks to come.

Re: Glasgow/Ayrshire area

Hi Lynne

That sounds a good idea for Barca, as you say it is an easy place to get to for everybody.

I look forward to meeting you and all the other ladies on the site. it will be good to put a face to all of the names.

Keep me up to date with the details.

Re: Glasgow/Ayrshire area

Hi ladies,

Have been reading this thread with interest. I am interested in going to the Young Women's forum next year (was too ill with chemo this yr) and would be great to meet some of you before then.

I am 34 and dx last Sept, have had 3 x FEC and 3 x Tax, with Radio, Herceptin and Tamoxifen. Had my last day at Radio today!!! Yipee, what a great feeling! Even though I am still not finished yet with the Herceptin, it feels like the hard bit has been done.

Unforutunately I am not able to come to your next meeting at the end of this month but hopefully will manage another one later on. (Not sure if would go to Glasgow one or Edinburgh, prob would depend on where meeting and how far from the station.)

A really hard bit of this 'journey'(hate that word!), was not meeting anyone at the hospitals of a similar age (although must say all the ladies were lovely but would have been nice to see someone in their 30's going through it as well as me). I am in the Stirling area and its possible that there are others of a similar age who were having chemo on the weeks I wasn't there so if there is anyone out there who wants to get in contact feel free. Perhaps will have to start a new thread for that???

I will keep an eye out for meetings in the future and will hopefully see you there.

Take care ladies. xxxx

Re: Glasgow/Ayrshire area

what do you think of lavita italian restaurant which is in george square so nice and central.... the menu is available online if you want to check it out.... let me know who all wants to meet and ill book a table for us on the saturday 4th... about 1.30?

lulu x

bob20
Re: Glasgow/Ayrshire area

I'm pretty sure I can still make it on the 4th (I'll know for sure later this week). Don't mind where we meet - I had a look at Barca, the place Lynn suggested. It looks nice and I guess is a good option if not everyone wants to eat or just wants something small and tapas-y or just some cava (i'm up for eating and drinking!). Princes Sq is easy to get to from both stations.

Or the place you suggest Lulu looks fine too - I can't open the menus but if its italian I'm sure it'll have plenty of nice food!

Happy to go with the flow. What do the others think? Time-wise, 1.30pm sounds fine to me. I'd get the train through from Edinburgh so can pretty much make any time if people prefer earlier or later.

Re: Glasgow/Ayrshire area

Hi Lulu
I can make the 4th for meeting up. I know La Vita and was there only last month with a friend. it is a very reasonable price and people can have a meal or just a drink.

Also liked Barca that Lynn suggested so i will go with the flow.

Look forward to meeting everybody on the 4th.

Re: Glasgow/Ayrshire area

if more than 8 of us are meeting you cannot choose off the tapas menu and have to have Barca's set menu... i was there on sat and was nice but nothing to write home about... whereas i think lavita allows you just to choose whatever you want off the menu.... but happy to go with the flow.

Re: Glasgow/Ayrshire area

Hiya - I'm easy, i know them both. I really like La Vita for food but didn't know you could go there just for drinks. Barca i like for the cava and the atmosphere more than the food. Happy to let someone with a stronger preference choose / or maybe someone who hasn't tried them but has a wee fancy for one of them.

I'm not thinking the numbers will be above 8 judging by those that have responded so far. Lynn
