Insurance nightmare!!!!!!!
Hi lovelies
Well I am having a nightmare trying to get some travel insurance. Our previous travel insurers have changed their rules and now won't cover me for breast cancer and asthma!!!!!!!! Arrrgggh!! I have spent hours on the internet trying many different companies but it seems that as soon as I put in diagnosis less than two years ago then it's sorry we can't insure you even though they advertise that they cover every medical condition - B******t!!! Me and my husband are going to Canada for some snowboarding at the end of march - two things which already makes the premium higher (I don't know what the problem with Canada is and obviously snowboarding has its hazards!! LOL!) There are some companies that will cover but the price is astronomical! I am just getting so frustrated!! I can't see how my breast cancer of which I am all clear from will cause me any further problems!!! I mean flinging myself down a mountain will not make the cancer come back!!! I am taking tamoxifen and understand that I will be at increased risk of DVT but seriously what else!!!! Blimey!!!
Anyway does anyone have any ideas of which insurers I should try - cheap ones!
Cheers
Bird

Hi there
try insurepink- they covered me+my family last Xmas for a 12day trip to Canada including winter sports. I have secondaries and had only finished intensive rads a fortnight before I took out the policy. It was around £150 including bc cover, which I thught was absolutely brilliant!!
Lets know if they get you sorted

Hi Bird
I have used MIA online (google it)twice and they will even cover with secondaries and are quite reasonable (I think around £70) for a 10 day med holiday.
However if you are happy that you are 'cancer free' you can ask to be exempt from anything to do with BC and still pay the normal premium for most insurers. I went skiing twice after my primary and used Direct Line but exempt from anything arising from Breast Cancer. I risked it, but I guess if you broke your leg or something and you were found to have bone secondaries you might not be covered.
Good Luck, it is one issue that keeps repeating itself again and again and we all understand how frustrating and unfair it is to be discriminated against due to BC!
Insurepink have always been great with me, I used them from just after I'd finished treatment for recurrence 4 years ago. The cover me and my partner for a very reasonable price.
The macmillan website have a list of insurers who deal with people who have cancer too - very helpful.
Enjoy the snowboarding!

Try Bromley insurance. Have also used MIA and Insure pink.
I shop around every time I go away & quote seems to vary hugely - France Switzerland x3 - once skiing and most recently India & Nepal for 3w which was cheaper than all previous holidays in Europe!
Quotes are all to do with the cost of healthcare in the country you intend to visit. ...
The bit I hate most is the phone call to enquire re quote - revisiting medical history repeatedly.Worth it though as holidays are generally very uplifting.
Enjoy your snowboarding
MIA onlne every time. £40 for week in france covering all bc issues nd mid chemo with secondary bc!!

I decided not to take medical insurance for traveling to France as hospital treatment free there unless you want a private room. We are covered under the European Health Insurance card.
I also believe you can take travel insurance that will cover you for everything but cancer. This would be fine with me as I just mentioned hospitals are free and visits to the doctor for urgent medical matters will be fully reimbursed by the NHS.
I will only make sure that I take a ski pass with included insurance as ambulance or even helicopter transport can amount to quite a few pounds. (no intention to use any of them though).

I have just got a quote for a week to Europe in March for me and my husband for 55 pounds which I have just got from Insurepink. I was diagnosed in August 2010 and had surgery, chemo, rads then Herceptin and Letrozole. I was entirely up front with all my treatment and am really pleased with this quote. Thanks for those who recommended them! Take care all. J.
I should also have said that I also declared my medication I take for pre. osteoporosis and the resultant joint pain. Just in case anyone had to declare bc and another health issue. J.
Hi Everyone .
I posted this recently on another thread. Dont know if you have seen it, so copied it here for info.
What follows may be worth looking into.
I was dx mar 11 with DCIS stage 3 ER+.
My husband & I bank with (not sure if i can post name if you wish to know PM me). To hold this acc costs us £13 per mth and for this you get a variety of "perks", one of which is travel ins for as long as you hold the acc. We recently contacted them to advise of my condition as we were unable to holiday last year. We have paid an additional premium of £84 to include any claim arising as a result of my condition. This premium covers any number of holidays taken over the next 12 months, after which we will have to renew for a further 12 mths.
We have planned 3 holidays as we were unable to celebrate our 25th wedding ann last year and they have already told us in writing that this additional premium is valid until 31/1/13.
If you find this is of interest and want any further information please PM me.
We think it is great value.

Hi all
Well after trying approx 40 different companies I have finally found one - hoorah! A company called Club Direct which covers me for both bc and asthma with no probs! fabulous! Plus with the winter sports coverage and adding on my hubby it has come to £157 approx for a single trip - which is by far the cheapest out of all the ones I tried. Thanks for all your suggestions though. It's been quite an eye opener and I feel that I know travel insurance inside out now! So thats that sorted Canada here I come! whoop whoop!
