Jitters before 2nd Mammogram
Hi Ladies
Just wondering if any of you have been in a similar situation as me.I was diagnosed with ILC in April 2010.Had a lumpectomy, chemo, rads and now on Tamoxifen.
I will hopefully be having a breast reduction on my healthy breast in April and due to see my surgeon a week tomorrow. When I saw him last October he said that before my op goes ahead,he wants me to have the all clear from my 2nd mammogram in March first.
I have just lost over 4 stone in weight and when I checked my healthy breast the other day, I felt a large thickness on the outer part of my breast towards my armpit, but only when I raised my arm behind my head. Can't feel anything when my arm is down and it isn't painful at all.Not sure whether it normally felt like this or it's a possibility that it may have something to do with losing so much weight.
I finally plucked up the courage before and showed it to my husband and he says that he can feel it too.I am beginning to panic now.I have worked so hard to get where I am right now and the thought of having cancer again is filling me with dread.I am just starting to feel "NORMAL" again.I don't think I could cope going through all that treatment again.
I know that unless I mention it to my surgeon next week, then I won't find out for sure, but has anyone else had the all clear after their 1st mammogram but found out that cancer has returned on their 2nd mammogam???????
Thank you for listening

Hi Hotmomma, from Mezzomamma. First of all, there are lots of things that that aren't cancer. Your fantastic weight loss might just reveal something that's been there for a long time and isn't doing any harm.
That said, it is also possible to have a NEW occurence of cancer, rather than the original one recurring. (Been there, done that, got the scars, still have a good chance of living long enough to die of something else.) Be sure to mention what you can feel to your surgeon and demonstrate when you can feel it.
My very best wishes that it's nothing serious. Fingers crossed.
Hi Mezzomamma,
I have been soaking in the bath for the past few hrs trying to relax and have come to the conclusion that there is no point of worrying needlessly until I get to speak to my surgeon next Monday.
It could be something or nothing, but worrying and stressing about it for a week will only make me ill.
I think it is because I have lost a lot of weight and exercised nearly every day since November that may have changed the shape and feel of my healthy breast.
My breast surgeon is very good and I feel very comfortable talking to him,so I will show him it next week.
Will post again once I know what's what.
Thank you for responding Mezzomamma
Take care,Franca xxx
