On another tack entirely, I'm amazed how under-used this section is. Are lesbians less likely to get breast cancer, do you think? (Hope the irony isn't missed here!!)
Seriously, where is everyone? Although, thinking about it, back in the day when I used to post here before (the JaneRA days, bless her), this section did not exist, so maybe it's quite new?
Anyway, things are moving on here as my partner now has a date for the mastectomy; Monday 22nd November. To give you a flavour of what she is like, one of her first questions when diagnosed was: "How soon after the op will I be able to walk the dogs again?" Unbelievable!

Bonjour Norberte! Yes, the dogs are quite big, but knowing what my partner is like, I'll have my work cut out to persuade her to be sensible!

Well, my partner's mastectomy happened yesterday and she can come home this morning. She was totally laid back prior to surgery and came back from recovery talking at a hundred miles per hour! Once the morphine drip had worn off she was still completely pain-free.
One thing no-one seems able to tell us is whether or not the sentinel node was biopsied while she was still in theatre, or if we will have to wait until her December 8th follow-up when we expect the full histology. Does anyone know how this generally works please? It would seem illogical to me for them NOT to do it at the time, because it could mean further surgery to remove more nodes once the results are in.
Anyway, I particularly wanted to post this to reassure people about to undergo a mastectomy (which is why this also appears elsethread; apologies if that breaks any rules!).

Glad to hear yor partners op went well and she sounds as if she is doing well too. In don't understand why they can't tell you, the surgeon must know what he did!
When I had my WLE 11 years ago, they took my node sample whilst in theatre which proved positive so they cleared all my lymphnodes at that time. I would imagine that they would have tested but I'd still try to get clarification before your partners discharge tomorrow.

Hi everyone! Sorry I've been a bit quiet: I have two jobs and one of them has no boundaries in terms of hours, so life has been rather manic with me trying to fit in all the dog-walking, ironing, housework and all the other useful stuff herself generally does!
Everything is going really well, other than the fact that the district nurse was insistent on my partner's drain staying in for a lot longer than the consultant had recommended. Eventually we phoned the breast cancer nurse who said: "It needs to come out!" So, back on the phone to the district nurses who said they "might be able to come tomorrow"!!!!!!!!!!!! Well, bolshy ex-nurse that I am, I just got on and did it, and it's all fine. Next two goals are steri-strips off on Thursday (which I suspect will be me again!) and follow-up appointment for full histology on December 8th.
How's everyone else doing?
