MEDICAL MALPRACTICE
Hi Dear!
I am just starting on this forum and I would like to know something about the English medical corps and law.
I am diagnosed with breast cancer (Grade 2;HER negative:Invasive Ductual Carcinoma)
My surgery (lumpectomy) was 5 weeks ago and I can not recover, my breast in inflammation and this happened with my armpit also. The medical team did not use drain-pipe and the pent-up fluid did a serious inflammation. I use the third box Co-Amoxiclav, but this is absolutly resistent for the medicine, nothing change.
In this 5 weeks they drained the fluid twice from my breast and once from my armpit.
I could not start the radiotherapy, I take gratuitous pain, I lose my money, I can go back to work later.
When I asked them, they told me that they use the drain-pipa with lumpectomy and I am simply unlucky. Never told me this a doctor in my life!!!
I asked the doctor please do for me blood test, because it is an inflammation in my body, I lose my hair, this is the third box medicine and I had leukopeny. He told me he does not do it, because it is not reasonable and "lot of money"(???).
I need any support, what can I do now? Is it a medical malpractice?
Can I get any compensation by law? It is University Hospital. Is it possible that my surgery was doing by a practitioner?
I am not happy with this medical team and I need your advice can I do something or not ?
Thank you for all your help and all best for everybody!
Catrine

Catrine - contact PALS at your hospital and explain your situation to them - they will be able to advise you.
Hi Catrine
Sorry to hear about all your problems.
I agree with Msmolly that PALS in the hospital is the best place to start. They help to resolve problems and complaints. I think this is important as you are still having ongoing problems.
The questons I would want to know are:
1. Is it an infection?
2. If yes, why aren't the antibiotics resolving it.
3. What is the plan for treatment.
You may have what is a called a seroma where fluid gathers. I had drains for a long time but still had the problem as soon as the drain was removed. My wound had to be drained about 6 times in total but it did resolve in the end. You can get a seroma that gets infected.
take care

What you need is someone to go through all this with you properly.
Hi Catrine,
Sorry to hear about your ordeal. Yeas, I think the PALS is the best way of starting as they can also refer you to other organizations to raise your complaint like the General Medical Council. http://www.gmc-uk.org/concerns/making_a_complaint.asp
I would like to ask the name of the hospital where you have been treated, I am considering to be transferred to UCLH and, when you say you were treated in an university hospital it came to my mine that it could be this.
All the best
xx
