Moving to a new area - how to change hospitals
I am currently living in South Wales but will be moving in a couple of months to the border of East & North Yorkshire. I have had my 6 monthly checkup today and asked how to go about transferring and continuity of care but go no real answer.
I was told I will have to move, register with a new GP, get my GP to refer me to a breast care centre and then they will get my notes from my current hospital! I am due a mammogram at the end of July and my registrar basically said 'no chance - we can't sort things out that quickly'!
I am sure many of you must have been through this process already and I would be really grateful if you could give me some tips on the best way to go about this.
Thanks
Jo

Hi Joe.. What a nightmare for you, moving house whilst coping with breast cancer, but it should not take that long for hospitals to transfer your details. I also had to change drs and hospital, I was diagnosed 20th Oct 09, was all changed within 2weeks, no problems at all. Good luck.. love Tracey..x
Thanks Tracey - that is a bit of reassurance. I just don't trust large organisations like the NHS to do things that smoothly!
You're right - it's a nightmare just moving house without all this to cope with as well. It's worth it though as I'm moving back to be nearer family, in particular my son. It'll be good to have him around where we can visit within an hour rather than 5 or 6 hours.
Good luck with your treatment.
Jo
