Painful good breast
Hi all
My good breast has ached and tingled all through chemo. Now that I am five weeks post last chemo it is bothering more. I don't know if it is because I now don't have as many other side effects to take my mind off it, or if it has got worse. It did bother me at the beginning of chemo, so I had an ultra sound then but that was in July. My BCN says it is, hormones and my lack of good support, due to being heavily lopsided. The pain definitely eases when I give it extra support, but it does not go away. I haven't had a period since mid chemo.
Anyone similar, did it go away.? Is there anything I can do?
Debx

Hi Midge,
I can empathise and sympathise, my good boob has been sore since the week that I started taking Femara, but I only realised what was causing it with hindsight. It was so sore that I got my BCN to get my appt brought forward and I asked could I have a mammogram before the year was over but the consultant was adamant that he wouldn`t allow me to have one, without explaining what the tablets can cause, nowhere on the side effect leaflet did it say "breast soreness".
As time went on,my fears subsided but the boob stayed sore however my onc changed me to Tamoxifen with a tablet-free gap of two weeks.
the difference was amazing in such a short time, but it became sore again very quickly but at least it is a recognised SE of Tamoxifen. What are you on,also you sound as if you`re a lot younger than me, I`m 58 now, 2yrs past DX, 18months since MX and 6 1/2yrs more of the tablets, maybe all the other aches & pains will take my mind off my sore boob! Take care and try not to worry too much, love Mags xx
Hi Mags
I am not on any hormone tablets as I was er- just on herceptin now and I haven't had rads yet. I am 39 now was dx in march. I am going to speak to the nurses on Monday when I get my next herceptin. I hope your aches and pains are not too bad. My legs still ache from tax. Thanks debx
Bumping up for you deb. I think it is very very likely to be hormonal and lack of support as bcn has said but why not ask for another u s as think you won't have any peace of mind now that the scary thoughts are lodged in your head. it's so horrid feeling do suspicious of our bodies now.
Alternatively, have you thought of asking for a few more cycles of Chemo as that seemed to do the trick in reducing the pain you could feel in the good breast...
Thanks Vickie
Alternatvely I think a couple of rusty knitting needles in my thighs might take my mind off it too. Dx
Yes, think I read about that approach in one of the macmillan leaflets, though apparently it works best for eostrogen positive girls as is linked to pmt. But there's always a chance you'll get some benefit to, do tell
us what your lovely bcn and oncologists take is on
it.
Bumping up in case anyone has some helpful advice for deb. Xxx
Thought I would update incase anyone else has this in the future. Saw the onc today, she had a poke and review my ct scan of the boob as it was on my recent rads planning ct. She asked if my cancer had shown on a mammo, which it had. So she said then it would show on a ct and there was no sign of anything and she couldn't feel anything. She thinks it is my ovaries fighting back. Debx
Hiya Deb,
So glad to read that you`ve had your mind put at ease, the explanation from your onc sounds very feasible. Hopefully you`ll be back on the road to recovery after you`ve got the rads under your belt, love and best wishes, Mags xx
Thanks Mags
Hope you are well

Brilliant news Deb, do they think the pain will go away? or are they in support of the knitting needle plan?
Joxx
Hi- the pain may ease if my periods return. Great. I get to replace one pain with another.
Meical quote' sticking rusty knitting needles through your thighs is not an effective replacement for 6 cycles of chemo- even if it is to take your mind off a painful boob' I am learning so much about medicine- will probably get my doctors license soon. : ) dx
Thanks Vickie
