PM today that is a scam - where to report it???

Hi,
Signing in today I found a message from someone I'd never heard of on here, saying they were ill and had money in a bank account - the 'usual' millions of dollars and could I help them get to it and email them.
Although I've had these in my hotmail junk box on many occasions, this is the first I've had on here. Please can someone technical tell me in plain, simple English what to do with it?? And should I change my profile and get a whole new identity on here??
Thanks, Liz

I've received this, today, too Liz! Via PM. I sent a post to the general moderator address here at 5 pm with an 'urgent and please read' in the title but haven't received a reply. Any Mods here at the moment?
Liz I have sent you a PM.

to the moderator inbox as they are spam, the messages in
the inbox are read but dealt with in office hours so usually 9-5 so sorry
about that. Mike will be able to check them out on Monday if
you send them on to
Kind regards
Lucy
Same here! Have copy pasted and emailed for Mike's delectation on Monday!

And here!
same x
Me too - have just sent a note to the moderator email, then saw this thread.
Sorry - posted by mistake, now deleted.

Can't help noticing that, so far, apart from Eliza everyone else is stage 4...I think, if it's possible, it would be a handy to have a 'only receive PM's from contacts option.' I know you can block individual users but the fact that anyone can register here and then without a single post on the public forums, which would be moderated to start with, they are able to start PM'ing people straight away must surely be an open door to the type of mail some of us received yesterday.
Yep, me too!
Emailed Moderator yesterday, had reply and have now copied the text of the PM to them/Mike - assuming they/Mike can't read our PM's?
Oh im sorry you girls are getting silly messages thats all you need ,some people out there are un believable.
When you add people as contacts Belinda what does it actually mean.Sorry if i sound silly but not really sure why the contact thing makes any difference. I have one contact only as no one else had added me as one but i speak to many people.
Ihave had a few private messages and do keep in touch with one person through private messages but she is not a contact. As a contact can people see or do more things or is it just like you add people because you contact each other a lot. Sorry if i sound daft but not sure why it makes a diff wether people are your contacts or not.
It would be a shame for me personally if only contacts could pm each other but i have been lucky not to have any bad ones . I can see your point of veiw but its like everything else in life you always get that one silly person who spoils things for everyone else.
I think on the whole most people on here are wonderful people who need or give support .Makes it all the more frustrating that we all have to be in this club!!!!
Hope this matter resolves itself soon . Love Sharon xx
Hi Sharon, for me the contacts button just makes it easier to find people
a contact can't see or read more than anyone you PM. You're right it's just a downside of using the internet..just seems (so far!) it's been a targetted mail on a certain group rather than one sent randomly.
Belinda - my deleted post said exactly the same thing re us all being stage 4, then realised not 100% true so deleted. We are all quite long time posters - I wondered if we had all perhaps commented on the same thread and that was why our accounts were chosen?
I'm not sure about the purpose of contacts either - perhaps it will be different when we finally get the new forums up and running?
Julie x
Hi Belinda thanks for that .Can see how it makes it easier ,makes sense now.So sorry you are all being targeted i would feel upset too .Im sure it will get sorted .Some people are just rotten!!!
Take care. Love Sharon xx
Hi Julie, yes I'm wondering if more people, not stage 4, will report this mail today and my Miss Marples theory is unfounded.
Morning!
Looking at this late last night and again this morning, it does seem to be that some of us from stage 4 are the ones targeted. Must be from one of the threads. I managed (I think!!) to forward it on last night to the moderator and then deleted it. Be interesting to see if any more ladies post over the weekend.
Enjoy your weekends.
Liz
Hi All
Just a quick note to confirm that we cannot see/read your private messages which is why it's important that you let us know if you receive any spam/inappropriate messages so we can deal with the issue promptly.
Best wishes.

Yes I have one too! it's from a user using the name 'breezon'
and yes I have secondaries too!
All my contacts are people are communicate with regularly so don't think this was a 'way in!'
It's the same one Nicky !!
No, Liz and Belinda.
That can't be it. As Belinda says, I'm not Stage 4 and for that reason I don't contribute to your Stage 4 threads (the exception was Debsincornwall's one at her invitation, but that was now nearly 2 years ago) to the point that I didn't even post on the one for Cat that was in the Secondaries section.
It may be as Julie suggests and another thread; it may be that we were all visible as the most recent posters on a series of threads on the most recent list...
Eliza
Hi Eliza, yes maybe I've read too many Agatha Christies just seems odd that apart from yourself the rest of us, so far, are stage 4.
Hi,
I also received the spam e-mail, and I am not stage 4. Have forwarded to the moderator.
Jen
I got one too, in fact I got three! Random...
Cromercrab - now that's being greedy !!
Yes I did too. I am assuming I am not specially chosen to be a "beneficiary" so guess everyone did... x
Hiya, I don't usually sign in unless I purposely want to contribute to a thread, but have just checked and I, too, have received one of these spam emails-have sent it on to the moderator. I've only recently become concerned about my online footprint, and this just worries me even more. As far as I know, I'm not stage 4.
Naz
The reason I got three was because folks have to repeat things in order for me to take any notice lol
i know it doesn't matter now, as the moderators have "dealt with" the sender of these PMs, but following in Belinda's detecting footsteps I think most of us have posted on the Craft thread?
Perhaps someone doesn't like knitters!
Julie x
Ah yes could be the craft thread.
how could anyone dislike us 'crafties'?!
Hope it wasn't the craft thread.......... Don't let it put folks off posting. That's why we have 'screen names' it's an added level of security. I wonder why they decided to target the knitters ,if they did, it didn't get them very far. Thanks to the moderators who have acted so swiftly.
