I am due to have my portacath taken out on the 26th of this month. Anyone had one taken out?

Hi Marian,
I had a portacath for my chemo and herceptin. I had it taken out last year under sedation and I felt nothing at all.
Regards
Sue
Mine's due out on 21st and was told it would be just like it went in .. no pain!

I will be glad when it is out, will seem like the end of a chapter and the start of a new one

I had mine out in July.
I didn't enjoy having it put in at all, no sedation, and a running commentary going on between the surgeon and a student.
Having it out though was a doddle, still no sedation, but felt nothing and was totally relaxed.
I felt it was the full stop on the end of my "active" treatment.
Now, 3 months later, the scar is barely visible.
I had mine out two weeks ago, no sedation unlike when it was put in, but the local anasthetic ensured no pain. It was fine, very routine, I drove myself to the hospital and home again. The scar was a little sore for a week or so but will be hardly noticable in time.HTH.
