Samlee,

Hope you have a great holiday.
I can understand what you mean when you say the last piece of the jigsaw is having your portacath out, as somehow, its like we're still attached to the hospital with these gadgets inside us--I can't believe what a difference its made having my line out. I finally can believe its all over and Ive done it.

Just wondered if anyone else is having mood swings?

Yesterday I was so down in the dumps, today I'm much better.

Yesterday, Somebody impatiently asked if I was gonna move forward with my shopping trolley, I couldnt actually move because i was waiting for other shoppers to come through first, and I snapped back at her rather loudly, I thought she'd been quite rude. But that's so not me, I'm a quiet soul really.

I am on tamoxifen and had no period since last April. Hormonal, I reckon !!

SamLee

Truddles,

Thanks for the holiday wishes. Can't wait.

Would say your mood swings are more likely the Tamoxifen than the Herceptin. I tried Tamoxifen for a couple of months last year and the side effects were horrendous so not taking it at the moment. Not sure what I am going to do going forward.

But what I do know is that mentally now I feel back to where I was before I was diagnosed.

I know that's not much help or consolation, sorry.

Truddles Im on Tamoxifen too, and not had a period since February 2011. (But my onc told me thats what they want. If I start to bleed Ive to phone them asap so they can give me an injection to stop).

The chemo puts most of us into a sudden menopause, and along with that come mood swings. Just think, naturally our bodies would take maybe several years to go through the menopause, but in our case it happened very suddenly. So no gradual onset of moods/symptoms for us!!!

I'm sure the Tamoxifen exacerbates the mood swings (and hot flushes!)as its blocking the oestrogen receptors, but personally I think its a small price to pay for the benefits of the drug.

Can anyone explain why my nose is dripping so much at the mo as I had my last herceptin (number 7) 2 months ago on January 10th and then I have had a break due to having an op. I restart with number 8 next Wednesday so is a very drippy nose really due to herceptin even though I haven't had any for a couple of months?

I dread to think what my nose will be like once I restart next week too!

kimmie

Mazzalou it takes 6-8 months for the herceptin to leave your body so it might drip a little longer but it does eventually stop, my friends has and she finished in december.
I finished last month and mines been bad yesterday and today for some reason

It will get better x

truddles

Thanks for your replies, I will carry on the old tamox, I dont think my side effects are anywhere near yours, Sam, as youve posted about it on other threads, it's a big decision to stop a medication just to be able to feel 'normal' again, I hope you and your onc will decide what the next best thing is for you to do, BUT, hey, enjoy your hol first and forget about it for a week or two.

Drippers, Have you found that your nose drips worse if you lean your head forwards or if you crouch down? Let's all walk tall with our noses in the air!

kimmie

Truddles im not taking tamoxifen so cant help you hun sorry

Yes if im lying in bed its fine, if i go from being outside in the cold then go in a shop etc its off running and today I was on the wii fit and everytime I did an activity where I had to tip forward it was off again

Yes heres to walking tall truddles :Innocent

mangochutney

Yes!!!! Leaning forward makes it run more!! (if thats possible!!).

How long after completing last Herceptin does this runny nose stop? Does anyone know?

kimmie

Hi mangochutney

As I said earlier the treatment takes 6-8 months to leave the body.
My friend finished in december and hers has stopped running so im hoping its around a few months. I finished last month and its still dripping!
Oh the joys ;0)

And I have a sore nose from constantly wiping it. Anybody know a good plumber who can fix a new washer in my nose to stop it running please?!

emmy

Hi all it is so annoying having a nose that would win the Olympics if there was a runny nose event! I also have Hay Fever and was wondering if it will be worse this year 'cos like you Mazzalou I have a sore nose from the constant dripping! ughhhh!!!!! Horrible but still only 3 to go and hoping it doesn't get any worse! Wonder if Kleenex would like to sponsor us? Well it is like having shares!!! I am doing the cardi thing today cardi on, cardi off, maybe there could be an event for that too?
Here's hoping that your supply of tissues never runs out! Em xxx

SamLee

Yes, but if there was an Olynmpic event for it you probably wouldn't get tickets.

Sorry, that was from a bitter and twisted person who applied for lots of tickets and got absolutely none (despite being able to see the Olympic stadium for her London office.)

Sam

mangochutney

Emmy, Just laughing here at the "cardy on, cardy off" post!!!! Soooo funny!!! Thats me!!! (with tissues flying everwhere during the process, of course!!).

emmy

Still could be an event, we could call it tissue flinging for cardis! See whose goes the furthest when doing the cardi shuffle! Sorry SamLee it must be so frustrating to be so near and yet so far! Em xxx

kimmie

Eeee girls you have me laughing. What about who can absorb the most paper with there nose drips? Ha ha

My oh has just said 'more tissues on the floor' oops ha ha

X

truddles

Mazzalou,
My OH does some plumbing work,; I dont know about washers, but a couple of hoses up each nostril, linking to tissue-filled pockets?
We'll look like those creatures from Dr Who, I cant think what they were called though. They had big eyes and I think the hoses were their breathing tubes.

I'm off to a party soon, thank goodness it's not fancy dress...

Did you hear about the next Government Bill they're trying to bring through??

===TAX RELIEF ON TISSUE PURCHASES ===

Mazzalou

How to avoid a hosepipe ban and solve the drought problem this summer? Divert all our herceptin dripping noses into a reservoir - sorted!

I can see the headlines now - 'Herceptin women save the planet'!!!

mangochutney

Mazzalou, love it!!!

emmy

I am not wearing my knickers outside my tights for anyone! So they will have to settle for tissues up the sleeves Ta!Da! Well come to think of it from everywhere so sort of makes us members of the magic circle along with being Olympians wow multi tasking!!! Em xxx

kimmie

Hey emmy whats good enough for wonder woman is good enough for us :Innocent ha ha

Mazzalou

It's Official - today's news headline:

"South-east England facing hosepipe ban"

Come on ladies, let's get those hosepipes up our nostrils and start dripping - our country needs us!

England expects every woman to do their duty!

kimmie

I did my bit yesterday mazzalou, I was weeding the garden and fully watered it as I was going along :Innocent

ChoccieMuffin

Muffin top, Em? I don't have a muffin top, I have an entire Victoria sandwich, complete with buttercream and jam!

kimmie

Kim x

truddles

Hey girls,

There's gonna be 2012 Olympics on here!

Check out the Benchland Thread circa page 81

I've entered you all for the Herceptin Marathon

I'm in hysterics!

xxx

mangochutney

Got my 13th Herceptin on Friday, so heres to continued nose dripping!!

Anyone else suffering with lower back ache and aches in knees whilst on Herceptin? Not sure if this is the cause or Tamoxifen, which Im also on. BCN said its the Herceptin and its cumulative. So it will get worse before it gets better!!

Obviously, I cant help worrying about every ache and pain, so if anyone else can reassure me I'd be very grateful.
