They wont let me have my treatment Hi everyone,
I was ment to have my herceptin treatment on Friday 16th I have to phone on the thursday to say if I am going for it my mum rang up and they said oh no she cant have the treatment she has to have a heart scan before we are aloud to give it to her. I have to have heart scans every 3 months but was not due to have it untill middle of April. I only saw my oncologist 2 weeks ago and I told her I still had not had my appointment through for the scan and she said it didnt matter as I still had a few weeks till I needed it. I am so angry thay she made a cock up she is ment to be an oncologist and no about these things. It is only because there is now a new oncologist (now 7th one I will have had since I was diagnosed over a year ago) she is not happy that my last herat scan showed that my heart rate had dropped to 56, 55 is the cut of point where they stop treatment and see if the heart rate picks back up. When I told the oncologist my concerns that my heart rate had dropped from 68 to 56 in only 5 months she said she was not bothered as it didint make any differences she said 56 is the same as 58 or 59 (stupid cow).
When i phoned my chemo nurse and told her I was not happy having to miss a dose and that I could leave work now and have it done before treatment on the friday she told me the heart scan people had no appointments for 2 weeks the 27th March (I would have thought they could have done is as an urgent case) so as treatment will now be given 2 weeks late I will have to have a bigger dose which when they did that last time I had a reaction to it.
Then today I get a letter through saying the heart scan is not on the 27th it is on the 12th April by then I will have missed 2 doses.
I AM SO ANGRY my oncologist gets everthing wrong and she leaves all the bloody time to have babys why dont they get someone in who knows their job and stops leting people down by going on maternity leave. She only returned a few months ago from maternity leave and is now on materinty leave again.
I am moving in 2 weeks so will be nearer to the Royal marlsden in Sutton so am thinking maybe I should change hospital and go there.

I am so sorry to hear that you are having all these problems with your onc and herceptin and your muga scans. It just boggles my mind that we as patients have to keep track of all our tests and when we need them done and get after the staff to get them booked. As a nurse myself, i find it appalling that patients undergoing treatment for such a serious illness would have their treatment delayed until the testing could be done. I cannot tell you the number of times that i have stayed late or done a patient in my lunch hour and have fit in their muga scans because i know how important that it is and i know the stress involved in delaying tests. Wish you were closer and i would do your test tomorrow for you. How bout you catch a plane and i will see ya tomorrow!! Take care my friend and i wish you the best. I would call your BCN and insist that they fit you in or get you a cancellation appt so you don't have to wait so long. Please let me know how you make out. I will be keeping my fingers crossed. I will email you and let you know what is happening with me.

Sorry you are haveing such a crappy time of it. i would highly reccommend the marsden in Sutton and think transferring would be great for you. Their BC nurses were lovely too and all my scans have been done very quickly by very proficient staff.
Go for the transfer girl. They are very good at what they do.
Do you get the idea that I like the marsden????
