Took 8 years to return even with no clear margins then

Maybe not the correct forum but I was quite inspired by a friends story this afternoon. His mother is 86, and had double mx 8 years ago. She was told at the time they didn't have clear margins and had "left some behind".
She's just been told it's spread to her bones and lungs, and because of her age and general health care is to be palliative rather than aggressive.
While not good news in that it has come back, I did think 8 years wasn't a bad 'clear' run and might provide a bit of cheer to someone.
