Wigs in London

Hi all
I am really interested in purchasing a human hair wig, I just don't know where to start!
I live in North London so don't really want to go out of London to get one and am pretty sure there must be somewhere near - somewhere personal and that treats me like an individual instead of just a depressed buyer - I don't want to be taken advantage of while I'm vulnerable!
Any tips girls?
Thanks x

Re: Wigs in London

I would recommend you contact a Toni and Guy hairdresser. They have been trained to help with hairloss and wigs. They are doing this in conjunction with Macmillan.

I got my synthetic wig via them and I was very happy. They can give you impartial advice on wigs and hairloss.

Re: Wigs in London

Hi Nalter I got my wig from Trend Co. The young lady there was so lovely, very knowledgeable and had a good eye as to what style and shade would suit me.( She was a qualified hairdresser) They do have a private room too.Mine was a synthetic one but they def do real hair ones too. Just one tip if you could take a digital camera/ mobile camera I found that helpful when having eliminated all but 2 wigs I was trying on these last 2 and photos helped.Their address is 229, Kensington Church St London W8 7LX Tele 020 7221 2646. I made an appt but I think you can just walk in too.
Did you know that your BCN/Onc can do a 'prescription' for you. Mine wasn't useable at Trendco as a local lady had the account for my local clinic but she couldn't give me an appt.It is worth asking mine allowed £60 off I think. Good luck J

Hi Nalter,

If you want real human hair, then Trendco at South Kendington do them. They are very close to the station. They are very professional & you don't need to book appointments. They also have synthetic ones. Selfridges also have a wig Dept on the 3rd floor as you are walking in to the hairdresser section & they have a small private room too. They only do synthetic ones, but they look very good, so definately worth checking. I was told that in both places you can get an NHS discount if it's for medical reason. I think it was 20%.

Good luck

Hi Nalter
I know you said you didn't want to go outside London, but if you are really stuck there is a shop called 'Hair to Ware' just off the A10 in Ware! Not sure how far North of London you are!
They are excellent and mainly deal with chemotheraphy ladies!
Good Luck
Sandra

Re: Wigs in London

I got my synthetic one from Hair to Ware (Ware, Herts). My friend (without cancer) got a synthetic one from Selfridges. Both extremely high quality, and like real hair. (see picture!) The advantages is that you "wash and shake" them, and that's them done. My sisters-in-law, who are both experienced hairdressers tell me that a real hair wig is a pain to look after and takes a lot of maintenance... Your choice at the end of the day, but it would be worth having a look at some good synthetic ones so that you DO have a choice. Let us know how you get on... As far as I know, Hair to Ware only do synthetic ones... Jane

I have looked into a clinic in Bloomsbury, London. They seem to do more personal consultations and fittings which is just what I wanted.. being temperamental I am still yet to book an appointment but this looks like the best of the bunch as I am stubborn and fixed on human hair haha... will let you all know!

Re: Wigs in London

Still haven't booked anything, but looked further into Bloomsbury of London and have found that they ethically source their hair through a system called 'hair harvesting', where they encourage people to sell their hair which they then pass on to make wigs - sounded good to me, cos at least I will know where the hair came from.
They do offer private, personal consultations, so the next step is booking...!

Re: Wigs in London

I went to Trendco in Brighton today and got a wig I'm very happy with.

They have a store in Kensington too (if you don't find what you're after at Bloomsbury).

There is a good place in Maida Vale. Hair Dzign Salon at 117 Shirland Road, W9 2EW. You can go there and ask questions or even have a full assessment and consultation. I like it because they had the time to explain every option to me. As well as wigs they will help with information on other options, hair extensions, products to help with hair loss and thin hair.

Hiya, my friend wants to try out ethically sourced hair... I think Bloomsbury does this. Do any of the salons you have recommended? Sorry to be a pain I really appreciate your help x
