Having very recently been diagnosed, I want to try and find out as much as possible about local support. My treatment seems to be at Worcester hospital, redditch and Kidderminster. Anyone know of any groups?

Many thanks

Hi Small1

Welcome to the Breast Cancer Care discussion forums. Whilst you wait for the other users to respond I wanted to let you know about the BCC live chat which is held here ever Thursday from 9 to 10pm. Here you are able to talk on-line in real time to other's who have a diagnosis of breast cancer. If you would like to join just click on the 'live chat' link on the front page.

Best wishes Sam, BCC Facilitator

Re: Worcestershire anyone?

Hi Small 1 , I have been having my treatment at Kidderminster and heart scans at Worcester , I had my two surgeries at Kidder along with chemo and now Herceptin. Don't know about Redditch but went to Wolverhampton for rads so been all over the place! I haven't joined but Kidder has a group called Bosom Pals they meet monthly I think (will check at next Herceptin) Kidder staff are just amazing! It's a small unit and you get to see the same people each time it's like a little family, the staff have been so patient with me and my needle phobia (I am not the only one!) we all chat and keep in touch with who is up to where though they aren't all BC they are cancer. I go to Worcs for scans every 4th Herceptin again as it is quite limited contact time difficult to say as I am 1st patient of the day at 8.00am and get off sharpish (traffic!)
You should get some info from your BCN on any other groups local to you. Do get in touch if you need any more info on Kidder as it has been my main treatment centre. Take care and I hope you get the support you are looking for. xxx

Re: Worcestershire anyone?

Hi there,

I was diagnosed over a year ago and still waiting for a reconstruction op. I found that I had to do a lot of research myself into groups, help etc.

St Richards hospice in worcester run a snowdrop group which begins this wedneday at 7pm, but you will nedd to contact them 1st.

If you are interested in meeting for coffee, then Im holding regular get togethers at St Peters Baptist Church most friday mornings.

Im also working alongside St Richards to get a seperate group up and running, time will tell.

I can give you advice on chemo, where to buy bras, wigs etc if this helps.

Also my brother is has just started running a pilates course at st peters baptist church which I have found brilliant as your fitness is so important (always check with hyour consultant 1st though).

Feel free to email me anytime.

Regards and Best Wishes,

Julie
