hi there
ive been trying really hard to get myself fit enough and well enough to get myself 16hrs of cleaning jobs so i can sign off jsa and go self employed with the help of working tax credits as im a lone parent
just about got enough ladies to clean for on paper and have now found out that come april 2012 they are increasing the amount of hrs you need to work to get working tax credits from 16 to 24!
there is no way i can do 24 both physically and time wise
is there any way round this does anyone know
thanks

Hi,
I may be wrong on this but thought the 24 hours applies to couples and not lone parents? May be worth ringing the tax credit helpline to check. Good luck, it's difficult enough moving forward without having more hurdles put in your way.

This says 16 hours. http://taxcredits.hmrc.gov.uk/Qualify/WhatAreTaxCredits.aspx
This details the changes from april 2012

Check the bits about disability or not being able to work more hours because of illness.
Also note that section starts "The rules about couples are changing". You're not a couple.
http://www.gingerbread.org.uk also have specialist advisers on the end of the phone They won't be cancer-experts but they know all about single parents and finances and the effects of parental illness or disabilty generally. I couldn't find the tax changes on their website so I suggest you give them a call. Gingerbread Single Parent Helpline free on 0808 802 0925.
Good luck
thanks for the replys. after getting the wrong information from tax credits and job center! CAB confirmed that yes it was just for couples the rules were changing phew
