In the News: this week’s headlines
Farhana Alam talks to the Daily Record about her diagnosis and hair loss during treatment. As a Muslim woman who has always worn headscarves she found she had tips for fellow HeadStrong workshop attendees, but struggled with the fact that people ‘were so used to seeing me with my head covered, they didn’t know or forgot that anything was different’.
Our HeadStrong service gives free support to anyone experiencing hair loss due to cancer treatment.

The Daily Mail discusses what amount of alcohol it is safe to drink, especially in relation to how it increases your risk of developing breast cancer. Carolyn Rogers, a Breast Cancer Care clinical nurse specialist is quoted. The conclusion? It's a bad idea to drink in excess, but not necessary to abstain from drinking altogether.

The Sun reports that Marks and Spencer will sell a new type of broccoli, Beneforte, which it claims can ‘fight cancer and heart disease’. The levels of glucoraphanin in the plant have been enhanced, and in case you haven’t revised your vegetable chemicals this week, that’s a chemical which is thought to help protect against diseases. I’m just wondering how it tastes...
