Why have you sent me this letter/email?

Breast Cancer Care and Breast Cancer Now have now merged to create one charity for everyone affected by breast cancer – the name hasn’t yet been confirmed, so we will have a legal name of ‘Breast Cancer Care and Breast Cancer Now’ for the time being.

Together, we’ll be able to do even more to provide support, carry out vital research and campaign for better treatment, services and care. Now we have merged, the new charity is responsible for looking after your personal data. We have sent you a letter/email to confirm this.

If you’re fine with your personal data being held by our new charity, you don’t need to do anything. But if you don’t want the new charity to hold your personal data, or you have any questions, please let us know – we really want to get things right for you.  If you received an email from us, you can either reply directly to it, or you can call us on 0345 092 0817.

What do I need to do?

When it comes to the way your personal data is handled, protected and respected – including any contact preferences you want to tell us – everything will be as it is now. Your data will be kept safe and secure.

If you’re fine with your personal data being held by our new charity, you don’t need to do anything. But if you don’t want our new charity to hold your personal data, or you have any questions, please let us know. If you received an email from us, you can either reply directly to it, or you can call us on 0345 092 0817.

Why are you contacting me when I asked you not to?

If you have asked Breast Cancer Care to not contact you by post/email/phone, we sincerely apologise for any concern our recent communication may have caused – your security, privacy and preferences really matter to us.

We understand that it may seem odd, but as someone who has either supported our past work, used our services or volunteered for Breast Cancer Care, we have a legal duty to let you know about the changes outlined in your recent communication, and we wanted to keep you up to date on a change to the organisation that handles your data so that you can make an informed choice about the way your data is held.

When it comes to the way your personal data is handled, protected and respected – including your wish not to be contacted – everything will be exactly the same. Your data will be kept safe and secure, just as before.

But if you don’t want our new charity to hold your personal data, or you have any questions, please let us know – we really want to get things right for you. If you received an email from us, you can either reply directly to it, or you can call us on 0345 092 0817.

I have a Direct Debit/Standing Order. What do I need to do?

You don’t need to do anything, your regular gift will continue to be taken in the usual way and at the usual time. The merger means that, effectively, your generous support goes even further to improve the lives of those affected by breast cancer.

If you have any questions, please let us know – we really want to get things right for you.  If you received an email from us, you can either reply directly to it, or you can call us on 0345 092 0817.

The need for your support remains as great as ever, so thank you again for your generous support.

The mailing has been addressed to a deceased person

We are so sorry that this has happened and apologise for any distress this has caused.

If you haven’t done so already, you may wish to register the person’s details with the Mailing Preference Service and The Bereavement Register. It’s free to register and they should be able to help reduce the quantity of unwanted mailings addressed organisations with whom they didn’t have an existing relationship. If correspondence is received from an organisation that they had contact with at any point, you will need to contact them directly to request they update their records. You can call us on 0345 092 0817.

I am in the Weekly Lottery, do I need to make any changes?

Thank you for your participation in the weekly lottery. We’re so grateful for all your support,

Your security, privacy and preferences really matter to us and we really appreciate you taking the time to get in touch.

Your data is now held at the new charity. Because you’re in our Weekly Lottery, your personal data will also be held by Breast Cancer Care until we receive formal permission from the Gambling Commission to transfer the Weekly Lottery licence to the new charity.

Once formal permission has been granted, the Weekly Lottery will operate on the new charity’s Gambling Commission licence rather than Breast Cancer Care’s. Your entries will continue to support people affected by breast cancer, just as they do today.

If you’re fine with your personal data being held by the new charity and your Weekly Lottery entries transferring onto the new charity’s licence, you don’t need to do anything.

If you have any questions, please let us know – we really want to get things right for you. If you received an email from us, you can reply directly to it, or give us a call on 0345 092 0817.
