Members of the senior management team of Breast Cancer Care have responsibility for their own directorates, as well as the management of Breast Cancer Care as a whole. 

They regularly report to the Board of Trustees, which is ultimately responsible for ensuring organisational objectives are met and legal and financial obligations are fulfilled.

Samia al Qadhi, Chief Executive


Samia joined Breast Cancer Care as Chief Executive in 1994. She has a long-term involvement in the voluntary sector, particularly health and social care, and previously worked for six years in the HIV sector managing a range of direct services. Her interests include issues relating to people’s rights to healthcare treatment and information. She is also committed to improvements in management, social responsibility and creating a healthy working environment.

Steve Lucas

Steve Lucas, Director of Fundraising and Marketing

Steve started his career working in retail before gaining extensive skills and experience in leadership, strategy and commercial. He went onto hold a variety of senior roles across a breadth of sectors including retail, entertainment, sports, fashion and FMCG (Fast Moving Consumer Goods). Some of these organisations include the UK National Lottery, Walt Disney and Haagen-Dazs. Most recently, he spent almost six years at Pentland, working in a number of commercial leadership roles for Lacoste and Speedo. He is also a Trustee at the Rieves Foundation.  Having worked in the private sector for over 30 years, Steve is honoured to join Breast Cancer Care and apply his skills and insight to driving funds to help increase our support services as well increasing our brand recognition.

Jenny Fernando, Director of Finance and Resources


Jenny is a chartered accountant and has more than 12 years experience of working with and within the not-for-profit sector as a finance professional. Her experience includes roles at VSO and Diabetes UK as well as a term as Trustee and Treasurer of a London city park and farm.

David Crosby, Director of Services and Engagement


David is responsible for building on the national and regional support we already offer for people facing breast cancer, developing new ways to reach every person affected by breast cancer with the information and support they need. He oversees our engagement with volunteers and people affected by breast cancer, as well as the digital, evidence and policy teams. David was previously General Manager for Central and South West England for Macmillan Cancer Support, and prior to that worked in social housing for 22 years.

Dr Emma Pennery, Clinical Director


Responsible for Clinical and patient information services. Emma qualified as a nurse at Guy’s Hospital in the 1980s. She first worked as a clinical nurse specialist (CNS) post in breast care at St Mary’s Hospital in London and completed an MSc in 1992 at the University of Surrey. After this she worked for ten years as a Senior Clinical Nurse Specialist, Honorary Lecturer and Clinical Research Fellow at The Royal Marsden Hospital and The Institute of Cancer Research. She completed her PhD from the faculty of Biological Sciences at Southampton University in 2005. She lectures widely at national and international conferences and regularly sits on Department of Health, Royal College and UK trial advisory boards and project groups. She is a peer reviewer for various international journals and has authored a book on breast cancer as well as various book chapters and journal articles. She also acts as an expert witness in litigation cases and special funding applications. She was awarded a CBE in June 2014 for services to people affected by breast cancer.
