Natalie’s mum was diagnosed with breast cancer when she was eight. This year she’s hosting a Big Pink raffle in her honour.
My mum was diagnosed with breast cancer when she was 39. I was only eight at the time, so I remember very little about it. All I knew is that my mum was poorly.
Mum had a lumpectomy, followed by a full mastectomy. She had weeks of radiotherapy and eventually a reconstruction. I didn’t understand the severity of what she went through until I was older.
I’ve worked in the beauty industry for 17 years and have my own salon. It’ll be the 10 year anniversary of the salon this year, and I was thinking about what I could do to mark the occasion. I came up with the idea to hold a raffle for the Big Pink. This idea grew and grew, as local businesses have got involved and donated prizes. Everyone has been so generous and we now have three hampers full of treats!
In honour of my mum, the Big Pink raffle will be drawn on 1 October to mark the beginning of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I’m so excited to celebrate her journey with her, and to donate the proceeds to such a wonderful charity as Breast Cancer Care.
Join The Big Pink party on 12 October and help us reach more people affected by breast cancer.
