The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) has recommended that a drug called everolimus (Afinitor) should not be used by the NHS to treat a specific type of secondary breast cancer.

New recommendations for people with a family history of breast cancer

National guidance published today makes new recommendations for the testing prevention and monitoring of familial breast cancer.

The guidance published by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) includes recommendations for people who’ve had breast cancer and also have a family history of breast cancer and those who haven’t had breast cancer but are at increased risk.

The guidance is not new but replaces previous guidance published in 2006.

The rise and rise of our Ask the Nurse email service

Sometimes it’s difficult to talk over the phone about breast cancer and breast health. That’s why we set up Ask the Nurse a dedicated and confidential email service that can help answer your questions and provide support.

The service has become more and more popular over the years with a steady increase in numbers. In 2010 we answered just over 600 emails. By 2012 this number more than doubled.
