Moving Forward Volunteers

What is Moving Forward?

We’re aware that a person’s need for support doesn’t end when treatment finishes.

Our Moving Forward Volunteers help us deliver our vital Moving Forward courses that help women approach life after breast cancer treatment with confidence.

Moving Forward courses are aimed at people who have finished, or are about to finish, their initial hospital-based treatment for breast cancer.

What commitment is required?

Moving Forward Courses usually take place over 4 consecutive weeks. A volunteer would ideally be involved each week for half a day.

What skills and qualities do I need?

To become a Moving Forward Volunteer you need to have had a personal diagnosis of primary breast cancer (and be at least one year post diagnosis). You also need to be willing to talk about your own experience to small groups of our clients.

You will need to be a confident and skilled communicator. We are looking for volunteers who are good listeners and are both non-judgmental and non-directive. We also need people who understand the importance of confidentiality.

You may have knowledge of local breast cancer support networks which could be of added benefit to the participants at the events.

Full training and support will be given.
