A diagnosis of secondary breast cancer can mean adjusting to difficult changes in your life. These changes may be small or more significant, but they can make a big difference to how you feel, both physically and emotionally.
Whether you have questions about pain management, treatments and side effects, or just want to talk openly to others who have had a secondary diagnosis, these sessions can provide you with helpful information and support in a relaxed environment.
Sessions usually take place monthly, and you can attend as few or as many as you like; and refreshments are provided, including lunch at longer daytime sessions. All sessions are facilitated by a counsellor and every other month you’ll hear from a guest speaker who is an expert in their field, for example, a Clinical Nurse Specialist or a Benefits Adviser. Questions and discussions are welcome and we’ll also let you know about additional sources of support that may be available locally.
The speaker sessions are an invaluable part of it and have been a very helpful source of information and advice. Mainly though, it is being able to be totally open about our conditions and how we are feeling emotionally. It is very difficult to talk to family and friends without upsetting them, whereas at the meeting we can talk it out together. I often leave feeling invigorated and empowered.Christine Jones, Cardiff
Once a year we run a full day event which provides an update on available treatments, information on fatigue, details of additional support and the chance to participate in a relaxation session.
